Legislation consists of formal proposals or resolutions introduced and voted on by the Senate to enact policies, allocate funding, or address student concerns.

Minutes are the official written record of Senate meetings, documenting attendance, discussions, motions, and voting outcomes.

Governance refers to the system of rules, structures, and procedures that guide the operations and decision-making of the Student Senate.

In order to ensure the preservation of the best interests of the students of SMU, the Student Senate has devoted Special Interest Senator positions to represent pertinent issues of minority students.

Committees are the working bodies of the Student Senate that research issues, oversee operations, allocate funding, support student organizations, administer elections, and develop initiatives to serve and represent the student body.

Directors are appointed student leaders who oversee specialized focus areas, lead initiatives aligned with Senate priorities, and advocate for key campus issues to enhance student life and representation.

The Executive Branch, led by the Student Body President and executive officers, is responsible for implementing Senate policies, managing daily operations, representing the student body to the University administration, and advancing initiatives that enhance student life.

The Judicial Branch interprets the Student Body Constitution and governing documents, reviews disputes and appeals, and ensures that actions taken by the Student Senate and student organizations comply with established rules and procedures.
